Privacy policy

Reset Buddy helps you through hard moments, so what you share with it is personal. This policy explains what we collect, why, who helps us run the service, and the choices you have. We don't sell your information and we don't show ads.

1. Who we are

Reset Buddy (the website at reset-buddy.com, the web app at app.reset-buddy.com and the Reset Buddy apps for iPhone and Android) is run by Morganray LLC, a Wyoming limited liability company. We are the "responsible party" (under South Africa's Protection of Personal Information Act, POPIA) and the "controller" (under the GDPR and similar laws) for the personal information described here.

2. What we collect

Account details. Your name and email address, and your sign-in details if you use email and password or sign in with Google.

What you put into the app. The feelings you choose, notes and words you type, reset history, saved tools, your bounce-back plan, boundaries you write, routine choices and reminder times. If you record a voice note, the recording is used to turn it into text. If you add a photo to a "peaceful place", it is stored privately on your account.

Your preferences. For example whether you want faith content (prayer and Scripture) included, text size, sounds and notification settings.

Subscription details. Your plan, trial dates and subscription status. We don't see or store your full card number. Card payments on the web are handled by Stripe, and app store purchases by Apple or Google.

Safety records. If something you type or say matches crisis language, the app shows Urgent help and records a minimal safety event (a category and a time, not your words) so we can check the safety features are working.

Usage information, only if you allow it. If you switch on "Allow aggregate analytics" in Settings > Privacy, we record simple counts such as which screens and resets are used. This never includes your notes, feelings, faith choice, voice or photos. It is off until you turn it on.

Technical information. Like most online services, our hosting provider processes your IP address, device and browser type in its server logs to deliver and secure the service.

We don't use advertising pixels, sell data to data brokers, or track you across other companies' apps and websites.

3. Sensitive information

Some of what you share may reveal your mental or emotional wellbeing, and your choice to include faith content reveals religious belief. POPIA calls these "special personal information" and the GDPR "special category data". We process them only because you choose to share them in order to use those features, which is your consent. You can stop at any time by deleting the entry, switching faith content off, or deleting your account.

4. How we use your information

  • To create and run your account and show you your own history, plans and saved tools.
  • To suggest a reset that fits what you tell us. Words you type may be processed by an AI model, through our hosting provider, to understand how you feel and choose a suitable reset.
  • To turn voice notes into text.
  • To show Urgent help when your words suggest you may be at risk.
  • To manage your free trial and subscription.
  • To send service emails (sign-in, trial and billing notices) and the reminders you set. We only send marketing emails if you opt in, and every one has an unsubscribe link.
  • With your permission, to understand which features help, so we can improve them.
  • To keep the service secure, prevent misuse and meet our legal obligations.

We rely on your consent, on what is needed to provide the service you signed up for, on our legitimate interest in keeping the service safe and working, and on legal obligations, depending on the purpose.

5. Who helps us run Reset Buddy

We share personal information only with service providers who process it for us, under contract, to run the service:

  • Base44 (hosting, database, sign-in, file storage, and the AI and transcription features).
  • Stripe (web payments and subscriptions).
  • RevenueCat (manages subscriptions bought through the App Store or Google Play; it receives an app user ID and purchase records, not your notes).
  • Apple and Google (app store purchases and, if you allow them, notifications; Google sign-in if you choose it).
  • Resend (sending our emails).

We may also disclose information if the law requires it, to protect someone's life or safety, or as part of a sale or reorganisation of the business, in which case this policy would continue to protect it. We never sell your personal information or share it for advertising.

6. Where your information is stored

Our providers store and process information outside South Africa, mainly in the United States and the European Union. When we transfer your information across borders we use providers that are bound by contracts or laws giving it a level of protection substantially similar to POPIA (and, for people in the EU and UK, standard contractual clauses or other approved safeguards).

7. How long we keep it

  • Your account and what you put into the app: for as long as you have an account. You can delete single entries in the app at any time.
  • When you delete your account (Settings > Delete my account), we delete your account and app records straight away. Copies in our providers' backups are overwritten over time. Uploaded voice recordings and photos are private and no longer linked to you, and are removed from our hosting provider's storage as it allows.
  • Billing records: as long as tax and accounting law requires (usually five to seven years).
  • Minimal safety event records: no longer than needed to check the safety features work.

8. Your rights

Depending on where you live, you have the right to:

  • ask what personal information we hold about you and get a copy;
  • ask us to correct or delete it;
  • object to or restrict how we use it;
  • withdraw your consent at any time (this doesn't affect what we did before);
  • opt out of marketing at any time;
  • complain to a data protection authority.

You can delete entries and your whole account yourself in the app. For anything else, email hello@reset-buddy.com and we'll respond within the time the law allows (usually 30 days). We may ask you to confirm your identity first.

In South Africa you can complain to the Information Regulator (inforegulator.org.za, enquiries@inforegulator.org.za). In the EU or UK you can complain to your local data protection authority. If you live in California or another US state with a privacy law, you have similar rights to know, correct and delete; we don't sell or "share" personal information for cross-context advertising.

9. Security

Information is encrypted in transit, your entries can only be read by your own account, and private files are reached only through short-lived links after a check that they belong to you. Access by our team is limited to what is needed to run and support the service. No system is perfectly secure, but if a breach affects your information we will tell you and the authorities as the law requires.

10. Adults only

Reset Buddy is for adults aged 18 and over. We don't knowingly collect information from anyone under 18. If you think a child has given us information, email us and we'll delete it.

11. Cookies and browser storage

We use your browser's storage to keep you signed in and remember settings such as text size, your tour progress and your analytics choice. We don't use advertising or cross-site tracking cookies.

12. Changes to this policy

If we make important changes we'll tell you in the app or by email before they take effect. The date at the top shows when this policy last changed.

13. Contact

Questions or requests about your privacy go to our information officer, Amanda Perry, at hello@reset-buddy.com, or by post to either address above.
